A roof rack is an ideal accessory to have on the top of your car when you're bringing extra items or equipment along on your next trip. Knowing how to use the roof rack is essential to prevent accidents or having your items spill onto the road while you're driving.

Measure the waterproof box or container that you plan to transport to ensure it fits onto the roof rack. Racks that have crossbars need to have the box placed within the square for a secure fit. The carrier shouldn't hang over the windshield if your luggage rack doesn't have a crossbar.

Load all of the contents of the box into the container after it's secured onto the roof rack with several straps from the front to the back. Attaching it when it's empty will make it easier to lift. Crank the cam-buckle to tighten the straps and prevent the box or bag from moving around.
