When it comes to winter travel we know that safety is a key concern for drivers. Snow tires are important purchases during the snowy season, but having a safe car will keep you extra protected in case an accident does occur.
In terms of safety, Honda vehicles have you covered. In December of 2013 the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released their winners for Top Safety Pick 2014 and Top Safety Pick+ 2014 award. Several of our vehicles made it onto the list and at Bend Honda we couldn’t be more excited.
This safety test has been conducted by the IIHS since 2006 and the Top Safety Pick + division was added last year. In the test's short lifetime the criteria has been tightened twice, making these awards prestigious and hard won.
Vehicles are tested on both crash worthiness (how well they handle a crash) and crash avoidance. When ranked on crashes, the cars go through the following five tests and must earn a rating of "Good":
- Moderate overlap front
- Small overlap front
- Side strength
- Roof strength
- Head restrains
For crash avoidance, vehicles that met the previous criteria and were equipped with either a warning system that alerts the driver of an impending crash or a braking system that stops the car for the driver made it onto the Top Safety Pick+ list.
Cars are ranked by size and the 2014 Honda Civic, 2014 Honda Accord, and 2014 Honda Odyssey earned either TSP or TSP+ awards
